Benefits of Renewing your Supply Pipe with Brennan Moling External Plumbing
Your local water authority (e.g. Affinty Water, Anglian Water, Thames Water) is responsible for the water mains and services in your street and in the footpath, generally to the boundary of your property. All property owners are responsible, by law, for maintaining the underground water service pipe that runs from the boundary of their property into the home.
In other words, if there is a leak on this part of the service pipe within the property boundary, the responsibility for making a repair falls to you, the property owner. In some circumstances, responsibility may extend beyond the property boundary.
A leak on your service pipe may be evident in a wet patch in your garden, or poor internal pressure. Poor internal pressure can also be caused by changes to the internal diameter in old lead or galvanised pipes due to corrosion. Up until the 1970s, lead & galvanised service pipes were laid to domestic properties.
By replacing these lead/galvanised pipes, you are eliminating any undesirable lead content in your water supply. Further to this, some terraced property owners may find that their water is supplied via a shared service pipe with their neighbours. By separating the water services and providing each home with an individual supply, pressure and flow to the property can be increased.
Brennan Moling will replace your old lead pipes/ Copper pipes/ galvanised pipes with new plastic piping. The new pipe will be a blue MDPE plastic pipe which Means it is made from Medium Density Polyethylene (MDPE). It will have a minimum of 25mm external diameter until it gets to your internal stop tap when copper is usually installed, however the diameter of the pipe will depend on the supply needs of the property.
If however there is any possibility that your ground, or the ground surrounding your property may be contaminated with petrol or oil or other hydrocarbons, MDPE must not be used. In these situations a special foil wrapped pipe must be used.
